Frequently Asked Questions

Are public universities in Germany really tuition-free?

Yes! Most public universities in Germany charge no tuition fees for Bachelor and Master programs, even for international students from the Philippines. You only pay a small semester contribution (typically €150 to €350) which often includes a local transit pass.

Do I need to speak German to study in Germany?

No, there are thousands of English-taught Master and Bachelor programs available. However, learning basic German is highly recommended to help you integrate into daily life and expand your job options.

What is a Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)?

A blocked account is a special bank account required by the German government to prove you have the financial means to support yourself. For 2026, you must deposit approximately €11,900, from which you can withdraw about €992 per month for living expenses.

Can I work while studying in Germany?

Yes. International students from non-EU countries are permitted to work up to 140 full days or 280 half days per year, which helps cover your living costs.

How long does the student visa application process take?

Typically, it takes between 4 to 8 weeks after your appointment at the German Embassy in Manila. We recommend starting your preparation at least 3-6 months before your program start date.
